The City of High Springs Police Department and Community Redevelopment Agency are honoring Town Marshal George Lasonro Bryant who was killed in the line of duty on December 3, 1908. A memorial dedication will be held on Thursday, December 3, at 10 am in front of High Springs Police Headquarters. Town Marshal Bryant served the City of High Springs for fifteen years prior to being shot and killed by an intoxicated suspect while investigating a disturbance. Town Marshal Bryant was the first law enforcement officer killed in Alachua County and the only law enforcement officer killed in High Springs.
The City of High Springs will be declaring December 3, 2015 as Town Marshal George Lasonro Bryant Day in High Springs, FL. We have invited the grandson and great grandchildren of Town Marshal Bryant to dedicate a memorial to Town Marshal Bryant’s service and sacrifice. A small reception will be held immediately following the dedication in the High Springs Old School.
