Happy New Year to everyone from the High Springs Fire Department! 2017 proved to be a busy year for the Fire Department with a 10% increase in call volume over 2016. High Springs Fire Department responded to 1,686 calls for service last year with 71% of those calls being within the city limits. As we start out 2018, we are expecting an even busier year. The first week of 2018 the fire department has averaged 8 calls per day. We have already had 2 house fires, the cause of these fires was determined to be due to the cold temperatures. We say this to remind you to stay warm, but be safe and use all heating devices in the appropriate manner.

Public Works –  The streets department is collecting the storm debris from the rights of way throughout the city. All storm debris collection should be completed in the following weeks.  If you have storm debris that has not been picked up, contact Public Works at 454-2134.  The water department will continue to flush hydrants, and complete work orders that are generated. Shutoff’s of utilities will start January 8th, they will also start to read meters on January 16th for the next billing. The sewer department is continuing to rebuild grinder pumps and also complete work orders, as they are generated. We hope everybody has a wonderful New Year!

Happy New Year from the Planning, Development and Codes Department.  As a reminder the Florida Building Code 2017, 6th Edition is now in effect as of January 1st, 2018.  Congratulations to Permit Technician Misty Everette who has earned the “Certified Permit Technician” designation.

We, the High Springs Police Department, have had a great few weeks enjoying the holiday season and bringing in the New Year. We were super busy during the month of December getting ready for our annual Holiday Cheer distribution day, which took place on the 21st. With the help of many local citizens and businesses and the High Springs Fire Department, we were able to spread holiday cheer to seven families this year, a total of twenty children. It was truly an exciting day for everyone involved. We are excited about new year and excited to see what 2018 has in store for our department.

The Parks and Recreation Department is taking registrations for our 5k on February 10th 2018! Register soon to ensure you receive the Frozen Foot t-shirt.
